<description>Ari, Another great post. Because of the way my life has been, I really do have this feeling that things are going exactly the way they are supposed to. I have definitely come across obstacles in my life, which changed the course of what happened--which I ultimately feel shaped my life in a more positive direction. The experience that comes first to mind was when I was accepted to Harvard University for graduate school. This was my dream--to go to Harvard--but the cost was a huge obstacle for me. Every time I sat down with the numbers, I could not make them work--not without incurring a HUGE amount of debt, which, as an older student, I hated taking on.

I contacted the advisor at Harvard and asked him about funding--and he told me that they didn&#039;t guarantee any funding but that they would &#039;try to help me find work at the University while going to school and that some grants or scholarships *might* be available. A week later, I received a an acceptance letter to Penn State--not my first choice of schools but a very good program, nonetheless. They offered me *full and guaranteed* funding. My entire PhD paid for! Not only would tuition and books be paid for but I would also be given a living stipend, which was a huge dream also. I was so torn--I really wanted to go to Harvard but Penn State would allow me to finish graduate school taking out no additional loans.

I ended up going to Penn State--which altered my path--but it also altered it in a way where I truly do believe in a more positive way--because through that course, I not only got my degree, I met my (now) husband, who really is the love of my life.

I believe we are placed on a path and along the way, we are given signs or directions in which to go--sometimes we listen to our heart and sometimes we don&#039;t. I believe if we listen to our hearts, we will rarely go down the wrong path.

Cheers,

Melinda
